This new video clip below of the Marvelettes looks like another great Unsung show coming up. (I’ve still got to watch the Kool Moe Dee one on my DVR.)
Anyway, with songs like “Please Mr. Postman” shown in the video — a song The Beatles did after them — the Marvelettes were on a roll, setting the pace for the girl groups to follow.
They look so pretty with their wigs and things and outfits.
“We put Mowtown on the map,” one member says, as they show old clips of them singing lyrics like “Don’t love nobody that don’t love me…” and so on.
They just kept going, hit after hit. But all of them have had horrible things to happen in their lives in the past, says the documentary, showing pics of some women with those old-style liquor bottles.
“They didn’t care anything about me so why should I care anything about them,” says one woman, a human sentiment that’s easy to understand.
Anybody that takes 43 years for you to even get your recognition is Unsung, they say. Wow — so they were hot the year I was born: 1969.
