James and Cheryl Fortune are at the heart of a civl lawsuit stemming from a November 2001 incident where James Fortune’s 4-year-old stepson was burned.

“My son burned himself,” James can be heard telling the 911 operator in the below video, one that shows photos of burns so graphic to the little boy that he spent 63 days in Shriner’s Hospital after the attack, whereby reports say James must’ve held the boy down in the scalding hot water to cause burns to the area from just above his penis all the way down his legs — and on his hands.

“My son was messing around in the tub and turned the hot water on,” he says, but later they show his mugshot, and say that James in 2003 pled guilty to felony injury to a child.

The boy has flashes of memories of the day, of skin and blood in the water — and of being on the helicopter that transported him to the hospital.

Meanwhile, James has released a statement saying he wasn’t convicted of felony to a child, a seeming word-play over semantics.

The chid’s father, Roderick Davenport, has obtained a lawyer, and he speaks sadly about dropping the ball and not protecting his child from James.

James, meanwhile, is releasing statements saying he thinks the lawsuit is all about money in the wake of his singing success and fame — but Roderick says the lawsuit is to pay for the child’s plastic surgeries, which he is now old enough to undergo, at 15 years of age, and that he brought a suit because James refused to pay for them.

Such a sad situation, but I’m glad it came to light. God can forgive us for anything, but when folks try and hide and not admit to what they did and continue to lie and dodge the truth, that’s when the public at large will find out.

I pray James can speak more of the truth out loud, and that the son is able to receiving much healing from heaven — physically and emotionally and mentally — over this horrific incident. I don’t like it when us Christians try to hide too much stuff in the name of putting up a good front.
