It’s odd to hear Mayte Garcia talking about her ex-husband Prince, because he always kept people so tight-lipped around him and made people sign disclosures not to talk about him and stuff. But in watching Sheila E’s “Unsung” episode, we know that Sheila and Prince had a long relationship, and now with Mayte on Hollywood Exes, we’re learning a little bit more about their marriage.

Of course, lots of what happened to Mayte and Prince we sadly know about in song — at least for those of us who were Prince fiends.

We saw Mayte very far along in her pregnancy in his videos, and I used to listen to that song “I can’t wait no more, let’s have a baby…What are we living for, let’s make love…” that Prince sang to his wife, about their son Gregory that sadly died shortly after he was born.

And then Prince wrote the song “She gave her angels away…” talking about the time that Mayte gave her guardian angels to her baby boy. Lord Almighty, they’ve been through pain. God help them recover and move forward.

In the below video, Mayte talks about meeting Prince when she was 16, and then corresponding with him via mail, sending him her dance tapes, and him sending her his music. So much for that “crown Princess of Cairo” crap they spun in their music that I initially believed. Wait a minute, she does talk about belly dancing in Cairo in the video…hmm…

I remember not during her “BM” or before Mayte period of Prince’s music, as she puts it, but after Mayte and Prince got divorce and Tommy Lee gave Mayte a ring, she put it on a necklace because she told him, “That’s not an engagement ring.” I guess the diamond wasn’t big enough.

She says she’s Puerto Rican, and doesn’t want any more musicians.
